Last Half Term:

Scooter training led by Road Safety Leeds was a great experience for the pupils to learn to be more independent on the roads in preparation for Year 6 and beyond.

The Swimming Gala was a brilliant success and experience for all pupils. For some, it was definitely the highlight of their year and for others it was a brilliant example of what you can achieve if you give yourself a little push out of your comfort zone. We were so proud of everyone who swam, helped out on the sides and cheered others along.

Thanks to all parents who could attend a reading session. It is always lovely to see parents in school, especially promoting a love of reading.

There have been a number of opportunities for the Year 5 pupils to represent school in the community last half term with football matches, athletics and dancing at Leeds Rhinos. Well done to everyone involved and thank you parents for your continued support to make these experiences possible for the children.

Coming up this term:

This is it – the final half term of Year 5! We hope that you were able to enjoy some family time over the half term holiday and made the most of the few sunny days. There is lots to look forward to this half term including: a visit to Kirkstall Abbey, sports day, Spirit Alive, Healthy Living Week and My Money Week – along with all the usual learning fun we have.

We are continuing our amazing writing based on the poem The Highwayman which we hope to share with you soon. We will then be moving on to writing our very important Buddy letters in preparation for being the best buddies next year’s Reception pupils could ask for! In geography, we will be continuing with our cities topic which links to our local history topic about Kirkstall, including a lovely visit to the abbey. We are very lucky to have a cricket coach with us this half term to work on our striking and fielding skills. We will have our first experience of programming in DT and computing where we will be using Crumble kits and Micro:bits.

Important Reminders:

Please make sure your child has a named water bottle in school with them every day.

Please continue to encourage regular reading and practice on Times Tables Rockstars.

When it is sunny, please make sure your child wears sun cream (applied at home) and brings a named hat to school.
