Summer Term

Year 5 Newsletter Summer Term 1

Coming up this term:

Welcome back! We hope you had a lovely couple of weeks. This half term we have lots of exciting things to look forward to. We kicked off the term by learning some magic tricks to introduce our new book: 'The Nowhere Emporium' by Ross MacKenzie. The children will be writing exciting story openers inspired by the book. We will also be looking at 'The Highwayman' poem by Alfred Noyes. In maths, we will be learning all about angles, co-ordinates and symmetry.

The children are very excited to be designing and making a night light for their new Reception buddy in DT. In science, we will be learning about forces and in geography we will be learning about biomes and the City of Leeds. We will be talking about keeping safe and managing risk in PSHE and in music we will continue with our music project inspired by the Russian composer Shostakovich. We are hoping for some sunshine so that we can enjoy rounders outside for PE. We will also be working on problem solving and team building.

Important reminders/messages:

  • Mrs Bastey and Mrs Ellis have changed their working hours slightly. Mrs Bastey will now be teaching the class every other Wednesday.
  • Please make sure your child has a water bottle in school with them every day.
  • Please continue to encourage regular reading and practice on Times Tables Rockstars.
  • PE days are Monday and Friday. We will be outdoors for most PE sessions as the weather improves.
