At Newlaithes we believe that every child has the right to a say in the running of our school. We have encouraged children to do this through a School Council that has been running for several years. In that time we have met our local MP, Stuart Andrew, on a couple of occasions as well as local councillors. They have explained why it is important for people's opinions to be represented. We have attended cluster meetings at Horsforth School as well as Prince Henry's School in Otley. Councillors have helped to organise fundraising events in school, as well as launching our ever popular Takeover Day where the Y6 pupils apply for and carry out jobs in school.
School Council - the pupils have spoken!

Our new School Council has been elected! Last half term, children in each class applied to be one of two councillors for their class in KS2. Application forms were filled in, ideas listened to and children then had the chance to vote for who they wanted to represent them.

The Council meet with Mrs Atcheson (Maple) every two weeks. We discuss ideas and suggestions raised by our classmates. In between our Council meetings, the councillors hold class council meetings to let pupils know what was discussed at Council, and to take ideas from class mates. Remember,
you can make a difference.....have your say!
